  • Located in the Basin and Range Province of the Western United States, Deming is surrounded by high mountains.
  • The Mimbres River runs nearby, offering fishing and water recreational activities.
  • Deming and its surrounding area is underlain by an aquifer of good-quality water.

  • Snow is likely to fall in winter, but usually melts in a day or two. Temperatures in winter are sometimes below freezing at night, but winter days are generally mild and sunny.
  • Deming is the only major stop on Interstate 10 between Lordsburg, 60 miles west, and Las Cruces, 60 miles east. Deming is also the closest major town to Silver City, 50 miles to the north.  Silver City was established as a mining town and is also the location of Western New Mexico University.
  • Nearby are City of Rocks State Park, with interesting volcanic rock formations, and Rockhound State Park, offering mineral & rock collecting opportunities.
  • There are numerous ancient Native American sites around Deming. The Mimbres and Casas Grandes cultures made pottery of remarkable quality, and the Deming area is rich in native pottery artifacts, as well as beads, stone implements, stone carvings, graves, etc.Deming has two wineries. St. Clair Winery is New Mexico's largest winery and the Luna Rossa Winery is a local estate winery that produces all of its wines with varieties grown on their private vineyards.
  • Per capita income for the area is fairly low, meaning that cost of living is also low for the area.

From Deming, New Mexico, go east on Business Interstate 10 (East Pine Street). This turns into County Road 549.
